Last Saturday Rooftop screened an excerpt from the film Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, a documentary about Notch and the others behind the gaming phenomenon of Minecraft.efore the screening we had the chance to speak to Paul Owens of 2Player Productions about the process behind making the documentary as well as about his feelings about gaming culture in general.

Todd Bieber, director of Found: Lost Pictures of New York Blizzard is currently trying to kick start his next project Turtle Derby Documentary and has just sent us a clip from the movie featuring a belligerent little snapping turtle.

Top Spin documents Ariel Hsing and Michael Landers, two very young U.S. Singles Champions in competitive table tennis. They may already be famous, but Sarah and Mina will prove just how relatable these athletes are as well; they’re striving to make it to the 2012 Olympics, while also just trying to get through high school! Rooftop is thrilled to hear about the new short film from Durier Ryan, after his wonderful Monroe St was so well received last summer. Durier is currently working on a very exciting new project Five Years but needs your help to complete it. Pledge now and kick start Five Years!

Rooftop is again partnering with the Rural Route Film Fest: on August 7, we’ll be hosting an 8pm and a 10pm screening on the garden roof of The Brooklyn Grange. But in order to get there, the Rural Route folks need your support.

Reel Works is one of the finest youth media training programs in the country, but they need your support to keep going!

The Rooftop Filmmakers’ Fund gave early support to Heidi Brandenburg and Matthew Orzel’s When Two Worlds Collide. Get in early as they are now seeking finishing funds for what is sure to be an astonishing political/environmental documentary.

Matt Porterfield’s acclaimed and beautiful film Putty Hill played at our Kickstarter Film Festival last summer. Now it’s playing at Cinema Village in NYC. Go see it this weekend.
