A few weeks ago we brought you the very exciting news about the latest project of Todd Bieber, director of the wonderful Found: Lost Pictures of New York Blizzard which was screened at Rooftop as part of our New York Non-Fiction show. Todd is currently working on completing his film, Turtle Derby Documentary together with Julianna Brafa but they need your help NOW to make it a reality. There are only a couple more weeks for you to pledge and kick start this project, or regret it forever.
If the wonderful trailer which we showed you featuring cute and scarily competitive kids in rural pennsylvania pitting themselves against each other, stopping at nothing to find the fastest turtle out there didn’t make you want to pledge then maybe this latest snippet will convince you:
Snapping turtles and schadenfreude aside though, having himself competed in the turtle derby as a child this project is very important to Todd who has seen how the rapidly decreasing turtle population is spelling the possible end of this harmless tradition. But the film is not simply a nostalgic foray into the passing of tradition; it highlights the impact of man’s destructive relationship with his environment in a way which is refreshingly accessible yet at the same time very real.
We are very excited about Turtle Derby Documentary and you should be too; from what we’ve seen; it’s going to be pretty special. If you haven’t had a chance to see Todd’s Found series, the shorts which have been hailed as ‘Youtube’s greatest adventure’ then be sure to watch them.
Pledge now on Todd’s kickstarter and remember that when you pledge on kickstarter you get stuff in return and the more you pledge, the more you get…like t-shirts and movie posters, even a turtle observing trip to Pennsylvania with Todd and Julianna! But seriously, even a dollar helps. Pledge now, write about Turtle Derby Documentary on facebook, ‘like’ it , tell your friends and relatives and make this movie happen.
