Renowned independent filmmaker Andrew Bujalski (Support the Girls, Funny Ha Ha) makes his debut as an installation artist with the multichannel video work There There, emphasizing human connection across space and time by challenging conventional cinema grammar, elucidating both the pain and the promise of people risking faith on one another.

Adapted from Bujalski’s 2022 experimental film—in which actors filmed intimate scenes apart from each other, with separations as far as continents, as long as months, and then brought together in the edit—the multi-screen installation pushes the core principles further, spreading the performances across three screens in a long corridor, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves as in a dream of being “in the middle of the movie,” physically navigating the exchanges surrounding them. The non-linear structure of the story similarly welcomes the visitor to make their own unique discoveries as they enter and exit at will.
