On a remote planet in the distant past, a Gelfling embarks on a quest to find the missing shard of a magical crystal, which will restore order to his world. Using a mix of puppetry, animatronics, modern special effects, and more, The Dark Crystal creates a sense of visual astonishment and majesty rarely equaled in fantasy filmmaking.
Jim Henson | US | 9
In this early, puppet-less film by Henson that combines live-action footage with animated effects, Henson stars as a beleaguered “everyman” running from the relentless march of time and the mundane routine of his conventional life. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live-Action Short Subject, Time Piece remains fresh today as both a time capsule of 1960s experimental filmmaking, and as a brilliantly conceived and edited example of Henson’s creativity. This recently completed a 4K restoration of Time Piece is presented courtesy of The Jim Henson Company.
