On May 11th, 2020, Governor Cuomo declared drive-ins to be essential services statewide, allowing for drive-ins to open immediately so long as they meet all the city and state guidelines for social distancing, cleaning, and staff and attendee safety.
Rooftop Films proposes drive-in movie and performance venues in New York City starting in July of 2020.
Rooftop Films has a twenty-four year track record of safe outdoor film events.
To guarantee safety of our audience and staff we are working with Emergency and Risk Manager Joseph Pred from Mutual Aid Risk & Safety to create and execute a best practice based safety system that will keep our staff and audience safe, mitigate the risk of infection, minimize the potential for workplace contagion, and monitor the health of our staff to meet or exceed local and state health department requirements.
Measures included in our plan:
Contactless ticketing
No cash changing hands
Online ticketing or RSVP for free events
Scanning tickets through automobile windows
Audience requirements
Audience members must stay inside their cars unless going to the restroom or the concessions (if/when concessions are allowed)
Audience members must wear masks when outside their cars
Messaging on our website and onsite instructing audience members to not attend if they are not feeling well or believe they have been exposed to COVID-19.
Audience will be instructed to only open driver side windows of their cars as an additional precaution
PPE for staff
Masks worn by all staff during the event
Gloves available to all staff as required and/or requested by staff
Additional PPE for staff as required by state and city guidelines
Hand sanitizing dispensers available for staff and audience
Social distancing enforced by staff and security at restrooms and concessions (if/when concessions are in operation)
Minimizing interaction
Event operations are designed so that staff social distancing is maximized to the greatest extent possible and comply with all state and city workplace guidelines
Procedures have been updated to reduce or eliminate items that must be touched by multiple staff members (e.g., technical equipment) through engineering and administrative controls
Sanitation

Paid sick leave is provided to staff members exhibiting symptoms or testing positive for COVID19 to encourage reporting
Backup staff will be on call to replace workers who call in sick
Advance planning for COVID-19 testing to ensure staff easy access to testing if required
Safety and Security Staffing
Each event will have dedicated ushers and security officers tasked with maintaining social distancing rules in the audience and in lines for restrooms and concessions (if/when they are in operation).
Ongoing training will be provided to all Rooftop staff members on safety as new procedures and policies are required by law or health department recommendations
Lead technicians will be trained to support the practice of safety policies and procedures for technical staff
