2016: A Season of Can’t Miss Shorts at Rooftop Films

We began 19 years ago with a program of short films, so what a better way to celebrate our 20th Anniversary than with the shorts programs we’ve ever had? That is what we thought, anyway. Shorts and Rooftop Films go together like apple pie and vanilla ice cream: they’re a match made in heaven.

These are some of my favorite shorts programs that you cannot miss.

Is This Love? Romantic Short Films
6/03 @ Industry City

Don’t expect conventional romance from this program. Uncomfortable situations abound here as we troll the couples that flock to this annual program. After sitting through a selection of short films, which include the story of a man that fell in love with a dolphin, you may realize that you and your relationships are saner than you thought.

Ties that Bind: Short Films about Families
6/15 @ Metrotech Commons

In these shorts, filmmakers explore what makes a family and how to talk to them in ways that are fresh and exciting. Each short will leave you with new insight on the dynamics of family life and the rituals that go into making them work.

New York Non-Fiction
7/08 @ Industry City

The return of our ever-popular NYNF brings with it reality-television stars, greasy lawyers, urban golfers, plus-size pole dancers. You know— the things that make New York such a unique place to live.

These may be my favorites, but they are just a few of the many great programs we have this summer. I hope to see you on the rooftops enjoying some unique short films with us.

Maria
