Ep 217: Ryan Werner, Gabriele Caroti, Nellie Killian & David Reilly • Darius Clark Monroe

[powerpress]

The podcast is graced by the visit of the entire programming team behind BAMcinématek including Ryan Wener, Gabriele Caroti, Nellie Killian, and David Reilly. They are gearing up for the 6th season of BAMcinemaFest which runs from June 18th through the 29th. Among the highlights discussed are the opening night film, Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, a restored version of the 1981 documentary, Stations of the Elevated, Darius Monroe’s Evolution of a Criminal (also a guest on this episode), and Carlos Marques-Marcet’s 10,000 km. Tickets are currently available for the majority of the festival at BAM’s website. There will be standby options for those screenings that are listed as sold-out.

Filmmaker Darius Clark Monroe joins me for the second segment of the podcast. Darius’ film, Evolution of a Criminal, is one of the films slated for a near future TV broadcast. We’ll keep you appraised of that as the broadcast approaches. In the meantime the documentary will screen at BAMcinemaFest on Monday, June 23rd. Darius’s astonishing and highly personal film is about what compelled him and two of his friends to rob a local Houston, Texas bank when the teenagers were still in high school. Darius ended up being tried as an adult and serving three years in prison before becoming an NYU film student. Evolution of a Criminal is his thesis project.
