Young Bodies Heal Quickly – Do They?

Rooftop Films proudly co-presents Andrew T. Betzer’s first feature film Young Bodies Heal Quickly, making its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival this Saturday night. Betzer was named one of the “25 New Faces Of Independent Film.” in Filmmaker Magazine, and his award winning short films have screened at Slamdance, SXSW and Cannes Director’s Fortnight.

Before having seen the film, I read the title and thought, “yeah, sure that’s true, but heal from what?” I pictured a young kid scraping his knee, and then I asked myself what I remembered of scraping my knee. I realized that the Batman band-aids were more memorable to me than the pain–because in childhood, for the most part, we only see what makes us happy. Young Bodies Heal Quickly asks us, “what happens when the band-aid, or the resilience of youth, aren’t quite enough?”  Betzer’s take on the coming of age and the road movie genre, Young Bodies Heal Quickly unfolds as chance events spirals out of control, setting two young brothers on a mission to escape the blame for the accidental death of a young woman – and at the same time, save each other from pain.

Shot on the ever beautiful 16mm, director Andrew T. Betzer illustrates this dramatic story of brotherhood with a hint of nostalgia and dark comedy. Tribeca Film Festival calls it “quietly mesmerizing” Rooftop Films calls it sometimes joyful, sometimes poignant, and filled with heart and brotherly wisdom.

Young Bodies Heal Quickly will have its World Premiere on Saturday April 19th at Tribeca, followed by three more screenings throughout the festival.
