Ep 196: Jay Rosenblatt • Rose Vincelli & Dan Schoenbrun

[powerpress]

Experimental filmmaker Jay Rosenblatt (Phantom Limb) is the guest in the first segment of this episode.  A common tool that Jay employs in his unique approach to story telling is combining vintage found footage with highly personal narratives told through voice over. The result is unforgettable and quite moving. Jay has been making films for some 30 years, many of which have screened at Sundance, and been televised on HBO and POV. The good news is that now a number of those films can be viewed on Fandor. In addition to his filmmaking, Jay is also an educator, a mental health professional and the Program Director for the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival.

In the second segment of the show, I welcome IFP (Independent Filmmaker Project) staff members Rose Vincelli (Producer & Program Manager) and Dan Schoenbrun (Communications & Programming Coordinator). Dan & Rose discuss a number of IFP’s current initiatives including the upcoming filmmaker labs. The deadline for the documentary lab is coming right up on March 7th; the narrative lab shortly thereafter. Filmmakers who wish to submit are advised to check out the submission requirements as soon as possible.

The closing track is the Ghostbusters theme (Ray Parker) in loving memory of the great Harold Ramis.
