Watch Rooftop alum in theaters this fall

The summer may be over but you can still enjoy the films screened at Rooftop Films. There are several films from the 2013 Summer Series currently in select theaters in New York: Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Cutie and the Boxer, Short Term 12, Drinking Buddies, Our Nixon, Frances Ha, Twenty Feet From Stardom, and Newlyweeds.

If you missed the Rooftop Films screening of David Lowery’s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, here’s your second chance! Though in a movie theater and not a farm. Catch the must see film of the year n theaters now at the IFC Center. A nuanced and powerful post-modern Western romance from one of independent cinema’s bold young visionaries, Rooftop Filmmakers’ Fund recipient David Lowery.

Watch artist couple Ushio Shinohara and Noriko Shinohara in Zachery Heinzerling’s heartfelt documentary about art and love: Cutie and the Boxer. Don’t miss your chance to see this remarkable story in theaters now at Cinema Village. This candid New York love story explores the chaotic 40-year marriage of renowned “boxing” painter Ushio Shinohara and his wife, Noriko. Anxious to shed her role of assistant to her overbearing husband, Noriko seeks an identity of her own.

Rooftop Films hosted a free screening is Oscar Outdoors of the heartwarming and genuine Short Term 12. After two rainouts, Rooftop finally showed Joe Swanberg’s Drinking Buddies to an enthusiastic audience on a clear day. If you missed that screening, here’s your second chance! Watch it at Landmark Sunshine. Olivia Wilde stars as craft brewery manager Kate, who stands out as one half of an allegedly platonic relationship with her co-worker Luke (Jake Johnson), but it’s evident early on that the hint of attraction between them faces a major roadblock: Both are embroiled in relationships.

Rooftop hosted a free free screening of Our Nixon during the July 4th holiday-how patriotic! Watch it this weekend at the IFC Center. Culled from Nixon White House home movies, whether you like or dislike him, this engaging documentary is a wrenching portrait of a fallen man, and a unique and captivating time capsule from a more innocent era.

Frances Ha opened our festival in May and you still have the chance to watch it in theaters this week at IFC Center. Acclaimed writer-director Noah Baumbach’s latest neurotic comedy stars co-writer Greta Gerwig in the title role.

Twenty Feet from Stardom premiered with our Oscars Outdoors screening with Ms Darlene Love performing after the screening. You can catch the film at Village East Cinema.
