[5 mins. 54 secs.] In this special episode of Filmwax Radio, I speak with Ben Fowlie, founder and executive director of the Camden International Film Festival. He gives a brief rundown on what’s new and exciting with this season’s festival which takes place September 26-29. If you live in New England you’ll want to check out this unique festival now going into its 9th season.

[16 mins. 48 secs.] Then this segment focuses on the Urbanworld Film Festival which is now in its 17th season.  The five-day festival includes narrative features, documentaries, and short films, as well as panel discussions, live staged screenplay readings, and the Urbanworld® Digital track focused on digital and social media. Visiting our show is the festival’s Producer & Programmer, Aidah Muhammad, and filmmaker Slick Naim whose film Full Circle is included this season. The festival runs from September 18th-22nd here in New York City. Tickets and passes are available online.

[38 mins. 15 secs.] In 2011 filmmaker Megumi Sasaki made the lauded documentary Herb & Dorothy about the Vogels, an older NYC couple who have been amassing modern art for the past five decades. Now in a follow up to that film, Megumi has made Herb & Dorothy 50×50. Shortly before Herb passed away at age 89, the couple divested themselves of much of their collection by bequeathing 50 pieces of artwork to a museum or gallery in each of the 50 U.S. states. Joining me in this segment of Filmwax Radio is filmmaker Megumi Sasaki and Dorothy Vogel. The film opens in NYC on Friday, September 13th. Check the website for more details.

[58 mins. 25 secs.] Lastly, a conversation with director Kat Coiro (Life Happens) whose new movie, And While We Were Here, is in theaters Friday, September the 13th. Kate Bosworth, a delicately-constructed tale of broken love, forbidden passion, and self-discovery, set in the lush foothills and cobbled streets of modern Italy.
