Rooftop Alum head to the Oscars!

We are excited to see Rooftop alum and Filmmakers’ Fund recipients receive Oscar noms this year including two films that have played in the 2012 Summer Series and one film that we awarded a grant to.

In 2009, Rooftop gave an Eastern Effects Equipment Grant to Beasts of the Southern Wild and the film went on to several  prestigious film festivals, won critical praise and and is now nominated for four Academy Awards:

  • Best Picture
  • Best Directing
  • Best Adapted Screenplay
  • Best Actress in a Leading Role

We are so proud of this film and all it has accomplished. Congratulations to Benh Zeitlin, Court 13, and Cinereach for all their hard work.

Rooftop held three screenings of Inocente plus workshops for kids in three different boroughs over the summer. We were so pleased  to hear it received an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Short. From homeless teen to being featured in an Academy Award-nominated documentary, Inocente is beyond elated and we are too for her and the whole team behind this film; directors Sean and Andrea Fine, Shine Global, and Salty Pictures.

This summer, we showed 5 Broken Cameras outdoors at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, close to the United Nations. This film exposes  and that film is nominated for Best Documentary Feature. Congratulations to the filmmakers and Kino Lorber.

We will definitely be tuning into the Academy Awards this year to support these films. For more  on the nominees, click here.
