Rooftop’s Grant Winner Susan Youssef Premieres “Habibi” at the Lincoln Center

Since 2002, Susan Youssef has been working on her critically-acclaimed and award-winning film Habibi Rasak Kharban [“Darling, Something Is Wrong With Your Head”] and finally her hard-work and determination has paid off as Habibi will be screening at the Lincoln Center on August 25th and August 27th.

Rooftop Films gave her a Service Grant back in 2007 for Habibi and previously have screened Youssef’s other films, Forbidden to Wander and Marjoun and the Flying Headscarf. Youssef, who wrote and directed the feature, has been named one of “25 New Faces” to watch out for by Filmmaker magazine. Her short films have also screened at Sundance Film Festival and New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

Habibi Rasak Kharban is a drama that tells the story of forbidden love as two hopefuls challenge their traditions and faith as they are forced home to Gaza. The film is not only Susan Youssef’s first feature, but also the first fictional feature to set in Gaza for the past 15 years.

As part of the New Arab Cinema Film Series, Habibi will be premiering in New York at the Lincoln Center this month. For more information about the event or other Habibi screenings, check out the website and come out with us to see the show!
