The EPIX Movie Free-For-All continues with a Long Island City screening of “Biutiful“, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and starring Javier Bardem. This Barcelona film tells the story of Uxbal, a conflicted man struggling with issues of crime, spirituality, guilt, and mortality. As fate encircles him and thresholds are crossed, a dim, redemptive road brightens, illuminating the boundless love a father can have for his children. Iñárritu is triumphant in his direction and attentiveness, showcasing a romance with the Spanish language as it narrates moving, visceral spaces of the Barcelona underground.
“Biutiful” was nominated for two Academy Awards in 2011 – Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actor, and Bardem also received the Best Actor Award at Cannes. Now, EPIX, in conjunction with Verizon Fios, brings “Biutiful” to Socrates Sculpture Park for a special outdoor screening on August 17th.
EPIX has expanded to a series of 32 free, outdoor movie screenings in four parks in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Socrates Sculpture Park screenings will culminate with the “Backyard Band/with Silent Film Festival“. And every event begins with live music at 7pm so be sure to come early. You certainly do not want to miss this chance to see a truly beautiful film, especially because of the most ‘biutiful’ part — its free.
