Day three brought our third screening, which was at the Redstone multiplex on the edge of Park City. Toby and I got there about forty minutes before the Q&A, so we ducked into Michel Gondry’s 3D movie The Green Hornet movie to kill some time. We didn’t have 3D glasses, but I don’t think a clearer picture would have made the movie any more enjoyable. Bromances and superhero origin stories make for stupid bedfellows – it’s definitely the worst movie I’ve seen at Sundance so far, although the little bit of Men in Black 2 I saw on the TV in our condo might give it a run for the money.
The best movies I’ve seen? The devastating documentary called How to Die in Oregon takes the cake. I haven’t wept so hard in a movie in over 10 years. It’s the sort of film which should be followed up with a long walk with a loved one or some other quiet, contemplative activity – I feel for the folks who are seeing it today in the midst of a packed screening schedule.
I waited ten hours, and then caught the midnight premiere of Michael Tully’s Septien, which is sweet and funny as all hell. I loved it wholeheartedly.
We now have two full days without any screenings of our own film. My moviegoing begins en masse today. Catechism Cataclysm, here I come!
