Vote for Rooftop to Win $5,000 “Do Gooder” Award

The Brooklyn Community Foundation is hosting a contest to celebrate those who are working to make Brooklyn ever-more vibrant and equitable. As Founder and Artistic Director of Rooftop Films, I’ve been nominated for this $5,000 prize, which would go to the charity of my choice: Rooftop!

It’s a great honor for me, but moreover a tremendous opportunity for Rooftop. This award would help Rooftop host more free screenings in Brooklyn, support more local filmmakers through grants, and teach more Brooklyn youth through our education programs.

So if you believe in what Rooftop does, and think what we do is good for Brooklyn, please vote for Mark Elijah Rosenberg.

VOTE HERE!

You have until October 15th to vote, and can vote up to 5 times per day, every day. It only takes a minute, and could be a great (free) way to support Rooftop and all our work in Brooklyn.

You also get to vote for four other Do Gooders in the different categories. I’m in the ARTS FOR ALL section. I encourage you to go through all the nominees, but personally I’d recommend these four:

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Erin Barnes
As co-founder of IOBY.org, they have created a website where people can find volunteer opportunities or small projects to donate to. Ioby stands for “in our backyards.” Rooftop worked with Ioby in 2009.

EDUCATION AND YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT
Nekesa Moody
Nekesa Moody runs a mentoring program that benefits career-focused teens. She organizes logistics plus coordinates fellow volunteers who are all busy professionals but committed to giving back.

GREEN COMMUNITIES
Zenobia McNally
Zenobia McNally is a resident of East Flatbush and community activist. She is increasing access to affordable, healthy food and promoting environmentalism through her community garden and EcoFairs.

CARING NEIGHBORS
David Lage
Brooklyn architect, resident and “Dream Volunteer.” Doing good and giving back are in his DNA. Uses his architectural skills to teach, mentor, and inspire people to create transformative spaces.
