“One of the most touching documentaries ever.” – The Onion

“Prepare to laugh hard.” – The San Francisco Chronicle

Jack Rebney is the most famous man you’ve never heard of—after cursing his way through a Winnebago sales video, Rebney’s outrageously funny outtakes became an underground sensation and made him an internet superstar. (Rooftop Films screened the clip in 2006.) Filmmaker Ben Steinbauer sets out to find the recluse who unwittingly became “The World’s Angriest Man.” The result is the hilarious and charming documentary Winnebago Man, which begins as an exploration of pseudo-celebrity and viral culture, and becomes a surprisingly poignant journey for the filmmaker, subject and audience.

Rooftop Films screened Steinbauer’s film in 2009, and the filmmakers were lucky enough to have Kino International see it at Rooftop, and acquire the flick for distribution. We couldn’t be happier for these fellas, as they’ve worked long and hard to make an amazing film. The movie opens at the Landmark Sunshine Theater and the AMC Empire 25 on Friday, July 9, and we encourage everyone to go see it. These days, how a film does in NYC on its first weekend is crucial to having a successful run elsewhere, and I know these filmmakers have poured their blood, sweat and credit card debt into making Winnebago Man—it’s time to reward their success.

If you see the film, bring your ticket stub to any Rooftop Films event for the rest of the year and get in for free. It’s a two-for-one deal, where basically we’re buying your ticket to Winnebago Man.
