As the world watches to see how much more oil will be allowed to spill into the Gulf of Mexico, Josh Fox‘s new documentary Gasland is exposing another kind of dangerous drilling, one that is happening right in our own backyards. Literally.
Josh hadn’t thought much about hydraulic fracturing (known casually as fracking) until a natural gas mining company offered him $100,000 for the right to use the technique to drill for gas on his land. What started as a simple investigation into what exactly the company was planning on doing turned into a cross country odyssey, each step bringing him face to face with the horrifying effects of fracking.
Last night on the Daily Show, Josh Fox sat down with Jon Stewart to discuss the dangers of fracking and whether the “Halliburton loophole” is a provision in the 2005 energy bill or the worst sex position ever. See the clip below.
Rooftop Films, in partnership with The Fledgling Fund, will be screening Gasland on September 11th in New York City before taking the film and Josh on a tour through some of the worst affected areas in Upstate New York and Pennsylvania. Stay tuned for more details.
