Summer Series 2010 Opens May 14

Rooftop Films’ Summer Series 2010 is right around the corner! We will be screening more than 125 new short and feature films from around the world, starting with This is What We Mean By Short Films on May 14th on the amazing roof at Open Road Rooftop above New Design High School (pictured above). Before the films there will be live music by Twin Sister, and afterwards there will be an after party with FREE  Radeberger Pilsner and Sailor Jerry rum for all at Fontana’s.

The next night at the same location we will present the NY Premiere of Kevin Asch’s Holy Rollers, an intense drama set in late-90s NYC about Hasidic Jews who get caught up in a drug smuggling ring. The feature debut from director Kevin Asch is based on a true story and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Bartha and Q-Tip. Before the films, Mahogany will play live, and an after party will follow again at Fontana’s with free Radeberger.

The following week we continue on Friday May 21st at Open Road Rooftop with Hopelessly Devoted, a collection of romantic short films about the sacrifice and struggles we make for love, including animation, comedy, documentary and a new short by Spike Jonze. Before the films Frances will play, and Radeberger will be flowing free and freely at Fontana’s afterward.

The next night, Saturday, May 22, we will present the US Premiere of Pepe Dionko’s Engkwentro. A riveting thriller set on the mean streets of the Philippines, featuring teen gangs running wild, trying to survive, with the specter of government death squads hot on their trail. The masterful debut feature from 22-year-old Dionko has won multiple awards at worldwide festivals. After party, as usual, at Fontana’s with free drinks.

Tickets are on sale for those four shows already and many, many more great films will be announced and put on sale very soon, so buy your tickets and keep checking in on our newly redesigned site to find out about what we have going on.

And we will see you on the roof!
