Walk the Plank The Event:
An evening of cartoon animals having sex, cartoon animals doing drugs, and real live human beings playing rock and roll! Come on out to our biggest party of the summer aboard the Temptress, a giant cruise ship that circles Manhattan. The evening starts with cocktails at the bar, then really gets going with explosive and bizarre comic short films and animation, and then finishes off with music by the immensely talented Vic Thrill & The Saturn Missile.
This is our first show ever on a boat and we want to start off our ocean-going with a blast, so we have put together a hilarious, wild and downright dirty little show. It has been a while since we have been able to cut loose with a program and for this show we are taking no prisoners: cartoon birds will do things that God never intended; human chickens will swallow the crew of doomed sailing vessel; frogs will be pooped out alive, dolphins will battle cow ninjas underwater; The Batman will reveal himself to be a big dick; cross breed midgets will be lit on fire by aliens; and innocent idiots will accidentally mutilate their families and be massacred by Texas state authorities. If that isn't funny, we donĄt know what is.
The Temptress is a two-level boat, with two full bars, two outdoor decks, a gorgeous interior that includes a hardwood dance floor and a grand dual staircase connecting the two floors of the stunning glass-enclosed atrium.
The Band:
After the films, the incredibly energetic and charismatic Vic Thrill & The Saturn Missile will perform with songs from their new album, Circus of Enlightenment. We at Rooftop have come to believe that Vic might be the coolest guy in all of New York. Not only has he been in numerous other successful bands, produced some of the catchiest, wildest sci-fi power-pop we have ever heard, but he has also conducted an orchestra made up of subway musicians. I bet you wish that you had thought of that. And now we hear he has a book deal about his strange friendship with the Hasidic Hip Hop MC, Curly Oxide, and the book has been optioned by Paramount and will be turned into a movie written by Tina Fey! Yeah, Vic is really weird, but he is immensely talented and irresistible onstage. Check out his intricate, infectious high energy music at www.victhrill.com and then come see the bandĄs extraordinary live performance on the boat!
THE FILMS:
This program is screwed up, but in all the right ways, so shed your inhibitions and come on out for a good time on a great boat, floating around the city in the summer.
Chirpy (John Goras, 13:00)
An extraordinarily detailed animated portrait of the love affair between a large horse and a very small bird. Banned in London!
Oh My God! (John Bryant, 10:00)
A playful satire about the execution of the developmentally disabled in Texas.
Egg (Benh Zeitlin, 8:47)
A rollicking adventure on the high seas featuring a mixture of sophisticated animation and live action chicken-creatures, with an egg beater Ahab going down the giblet to a gastronomical demise.
Mad Cows Vs. Crazy Eyes Dolphin (Ian Stewart, 5:40)
A sobering animated expose about how Mad Cow Disease is now killing dolphins. Via karate.
Bar Fight (Christy Karacas, 5:00)
When I was 16 I made a list of things I wanted to make sure I did before I turned 30 and getting into a bar fight was one of them. I never actually got to smash someone over the head with a stool or get gutted with a broken bottle of Captain Morgan's, but at least Christy Karacas can provide a glimpse of what I'm missing out on with this hilariously violent animation. Courtesy of Square Footage Films
Late Bloomer (Craig MacNeill, 12:44)
A hilarious and immaculately produced reenactment of H.P. Lovecraft's first day of 7th grade Sex Ed class.
PeeNut (PES, 2:00)
Award-winning animator and Rooftop Alum PES presents the most beautiful animated urination we have ever seen.
60 Explosions (Jennifer Matotek, 1:20)
60 explosions. That about says it all.
Frog (Christopher Conforti, 3:54)
A hilariously fast paced day in the life of a very unlucky amphibian. Courtesy of Square Footage Films
Mousochist (John Dilworth, 5:00)
Personally, I don't have a lot of sympathy for rodents, but John Dilworth inspires a little bit of sympathy with this endearingly disgusting 'toon. The Crack Baby Trilogy (Keith Wilson, 2:00)
Three episodes in the life of one f***ed up looking doll.
Ride of the Mergansers (Steve Furman, 11:00)
The Hooded Merganser is a rare and reclusive duck found only in North America. Every spring, in the Great Lakes region, the wary hen lays and incubates her eggs in a nest high in the trees. Just 24 hours after hatching, the tiny ducklings must make the perilous leap to the ground below to begin life in the wild, and you will not believe how cute they are when they jump out of their nests!
The Batman and Robin in Robin's Big Date
(Will Carlough, James Duffy 7:00)
Who knew that The Batman was such a cock blocker?
Awkward (Cesar Kuriyama, 2:30)
Next time you get wasted you should make sure to check the label before you start spanking yourself.
Tongues and Taxis (Mike Overbeck, 7:00)
One crazy cat, lots of dead squirrels, a whole bunch of severed tongues and a little bit of radiation can make for a really bad day. Courtesy of Square Footage Films
Everybody at the Beach (Arthur Jones, 3:00)
Some weird stuff happens at the beach, so we recommend you stay on the boat until we dock safely.
