The only documentary in which a man is bitten by a 13 foot long King Cobra on camera (and he gets bitten twice) is now available on DVD! Kiss My Snake premiered at Rooftop Films in 2005 and at long last you can now buy it online on Amazon or rent it from Netflix. KMS is the first feature documentary directed by acclaimed photographer Tom Tavee with co-production, sound design, and an original score by Rooftop Films Program Director Dan Nuxoll (which you can now download for free--just click the links above).
Thai-American Tavee traveled to the unique village of
Ban Kok Sa-Nga (population 655), in Isan, Thailand. It's the only place like it in the world--and for a good reason. What started over fifty years ago as an advertising gimmick for some rural medicine men has turned into a deadly cottage industry; in this strange little village, the world's most dangerous serpent, the King Cobra, has become both a pet and a business partner. Everyone in the village—from elders to children—work as one and perform relentlessly at their temple to attract tourists and herb buyers. The main attraction is the boxing matches, man versus snake, one on one! Bites are commonplace, but unbelievably the village has no anti-serum to combat the deadly toxins and the nearest hospital is over an hour away by car. Tavee was able to obtain incredible access into the lives of the fighters and has succeeded in accurately and dramatically documenting this dangerous performance-sport of snake-boxing, the art of theatrically antagonizing the largest venomous snakes in the world. The film culminates with events that occurred during the 2004 Thai New Year's celebration, and the exciting day-long performances that took place during this, the most lucrative and most dangerous time of the year.

Some of the boxers have been bitten dozens of times, but despite losing fingers and friends to their deadly serpentine pets, the boxers love their snakes and their perilous profession. So support truly independent filmmaking--buy it, rent it, tell a friend, blog about it, and spread the word about the adventurous lives of these proud villagers who casually look death in the eye every day to eke out a meager living. AND KISS MY SNAKE!

Read the reviews:
"Really, this is a great little film. The death-defying scenes of man versus snake more than make the purchase worthwhile; I don't think I've ever seen this level of insanity before, made even crazier by the fact these guys treat their snake bites with a combination of cold water, herbs and prayer. Check it out."

"The stunts they perform are both mesmerizing and completely insane. Kiss My Snake makes for an occasionally exciting, often engaging little travelogue. It takes us to the other side of the world, wows us with flashy sights of derring-do, then reminds us about all those little things that make us alike. Even if some of us put cobra heads in our mouths."
--David Cornelius, eFilmCritic.com.

"Along the way, we’re treated to some genuinely amazing footage of men dodging, poking and handling these very pissed off and completely poisonous snakes. All in all it’s fascinating look at a really rather baffling phenomena."
