In this Fandor-sponsored episode, I interview The Cold Lands director Tom Gilroy. The film had its premiere on the SVOD site on August 2nd. In our conversation, Gilroy reflects on his past, starting in the theater and his years collaborating on the stage with the actress Lili Taylor. Taylor is one of the lead actors in The Cold Lands, a tale about teenager Atticus (newcomer Silas Yellich) who loses his mother (Taylor) and then goes to the woods to escape civilization. After a while Silas meets drifter Carter (Peter Scanavino) and the two eventually form a bond. It’s a subdued film that stays small and intimate. It’s definitely worth a watch.
