Through Monday, September 15 at 12PM, Rooftop Film fans can enter to win two free passes to the entire weekend of screenings! Just click here and enter to win.

BasilicaScope, running Sept 19 & 20 and in its second year, dedicates its entire run to the legendary Alex Cox with his cult classics Repo Man, Straight to Hell Returns, and Walker. A visionary filmmaker who made the 1980s all the more bearable for us, Cox masterfully used pinpoint satire and a rambunctious stable of actors to illuminate the sleazy politics of the era. Cox will be live in Hudson for the Festival.

Basilica’s weekend of film is the next wave of programming to hit Hudson. Immediately following SoundScape, Basilica invites audiences to rejoin for what Creative Director Melissa Auf Der Maur calls “the future alternative SXSW format of weekends of music and film back to back”.

The weekend kicks off on Friday night with Straight to Hell Returns, a cruel new vision of a quirky cult classic starring Joe Strummer, Jim Jarmusch, and a cameo from a young Courtney Love. Saturday’s double feature starts with Walker, story of nineteenth century American adventurer William Walker (Ed Harris), who abandoned a series of careers in law, politics, journalism, and medicine to become a soldier of fortune, and for several years dictator of Nicaragua, followed by an extended Q&A. Finishing off the festival is a special 30th anniversary screening of punk classic Repo Man. In 1984 Roger Ebert said of the film:  ”This is the kind of movie that baffles Hollywood, because it isn’t made from any known formula and doesn’t follow the rules.”, and 30 years later its anarchic spirit still rings true.

Buy tickets at Brown Paper Tickets at $10 each, or $25 for all three films (and free popcorn!)
