Lotfy Nathan, the filmmaker of the new documentary 12 O’Clock Boys, is the guest in the first segment of this episode. The 12 O’Clock Boys are a notorious urban dirt bike pack in Baltimore — popping wheelies and weaving at excessive speeds through traffic, the group impressively evades the hamstrung police. The film premiered at SxSW and had a successful screening last summer with Rooftop Films. Now the film, distributed by Oscilloscope, will have a theatrical engagement here in NYC as well as other cities across the country beginning Friday, 1/31. For details look no further.

Additionally, I’ve invited Queens World Film Festival co-founders, Don & Katha Cato. Since Don was running late to the interview, the segment begins with a frank conversation with Katha’s last year battling cancer. Katha has been very public about her struggle and how being so has helped the process. Once Don arrives, the conversation transitions to the festival now entering into its 4th year. The festival which takes place March 4th-9th, will return to the Museum of the Moving Image for its opening night and over the next 5 days will host screenings at venues in Jackson Heights, Long Island City. This year, one  the festival’s recipients of their Spirit of Queens honors will be Hal Hartley, who also happens to be next week’s guest on the podcast.

The closing musical track on this episode is Waist Deep in the Big Muddy, written and performed by Pete Seeger, who died earlier this week at the age of 94.
