This week,  EPIX Movie Free-For-All allows  us to go back a few decades and relive 1970s New York City in all its gritty glory, as well as turn our dreams into reality–well, not necessarily our dreams, but definitely those of Jiri Sovak. The latter stars in Who Wants to Kill Jessie, a 1966 foreign sci-fi comedy about epic dreams becoming epic reality, which will be screening this Wednesday night at Socrates Sculpture Park. And if the comics-coming-to-life adventure still doesn’t quite satisfy your adrenaline rush, then definitely don’t miss The Warriors at Tompkins Square Park this Thursday. This darker action-adventure film from 1979, which gained a cult following, takes us back to a gang-infested New York where the city’s most feared, and the NYPD’s most wanted,  rule the city on their own terms. But preceding The Warriors, Rooftop Films will be presenting Mosquito, a 12-minute short by Jeremy Engle. The film also takes place in 1970s NYC, but don’t be fooled by its length–this grounded film about a small boy who puts up a big fight is no less memorable.

And if you can’t make the screenings this week, that’s a shame, but there’s no need to violently take over the city or create a formula to dream these movie screenings  into reality–EPIX Movie Free-For-All will be hosting screenings of more amazing films every week up until September.
