The Monday, July 25 screening of Top Gun has been rescheduled for a later date, due to rain. There will be no screening on July 25th at Coney Island. Check back later for dates for the rescheduled event.

The EPIX Movie Free-For-All continues its summer screenings with a free showing of Top Gun at Coney Island in conjunction with Verizon Fios and Coney Island Flicks on the Beach.

Tom Cruise stars as a naval fighter pilot in this seminal 1980’s flick. Top Gun is an action movie, sure – but before it’s all said and done, we get healthy doses of romance, tragedy, beer-fueled sing-alongs and totally non-sexual topless male volleyball. Plus, you get to decide who’s the bigger villain: the high-flying Russian bogeys or Val “Iceman” Kilmer. And let’s not forget the soundtrack: trust us, Kenny Loggins has never sounded cooler.

EPIX will kick off the night with a live DJ at 7pm, followed by Rooftop’s presentation of  the short film TUGS, a film by Jessica Edwards. Set against the backdrop of one of the world’s busiest harbors, TUGS is an ode to the hardest working boats on the waterways and the people who pilot them. Once filled with scallywags and salty dogs, the marine towing industry in New York City has matured, but the traditions of family, community, and hard work persevere. Lyrically realized, TUGS admires the legacy and longevity of the boats and the strength of their position in the country’s history and future.

Coney Island screenings will continue every Monday night through the end of August, with screenings of New York classics like Annie Hall and Moonstruck and newer releases like Iron Man 2 and Never Say Never, with Rooftop Films shorts before all of them.

Venue: On the Beach at Coney Island. W 12th and the beach, right near Luna Park.
Train: Take the F train to Coney Island, walk to the beach and make a left.
