One of the benefits of showing your short film at the Rooftop Summer Series is the chance to have it distributed by Film Movement, a wonderful North American distributor committed to releasing the best independent and foreign films via a wide array of outlets, including movie theaters, TV, DVD, cable and internet VOD and in-flight entertainment. Since its launch in 2003, Film Movement has released more than 200 feature films and shorts from 45 countries on six continents, including top prize winners from Sundance, Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Berlin, Tribeca and other prestigious festivals.

Both Rooftop Films and Film Movement feel that some of the most courageous and exciting films being made today are shorts. Unfortunately, all too often, these tiny, bright gems go unnoticed. That’s why Rooftop and Film Movement have teamed up to award a distribution deal to one short film shown at this year’s Rooftop Summer Series.

After much deliberation, the 2010 Distribution Award has been announced.  Congratulations to Dutch filmmaker Joost van Ginkel on his award-winning short film, Kiss!  Kiss will be available to Film Movement members in November 2010 as a special feature on the DVD of Berlin Int’l Film Festival’s award-winner If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle. The DVD will be released for rental and purchase to the general public in June.

Rebeca Conget, Film Movement’s VP of Acquisitions & Distribution, says, “The selection of shorts by Rooftop Films this past summer was incredible, and we had a very hard time choosing just one for our distribution award. Ultimately, we were incredibly moved by Kiss, and were very impressed with both Joost van Ginkel’s delicate direction and the nuanced acting style of the film’s protagonists. We look forward to seeing more of van Ginkel’s work in the future.”

Once again, Film Movement and Rooftop Films are giving you TWO chances to win a FREE DVD with Kiss and the thriller If I Want to Whistle, I’ll Whistle:
