Thanks to everyone who made Rooftop Films Opening Weekend a huge success. Over 1,700 of you came up to the roof above the New Design High School in the Lower East Side, and both This is What We Mean by Short Films on Friday and Holy Rollers on Saturday sold out. Our 14th season’s kick-off got a lot of attention from the press, too. Here are a few highlights:

Time Out New York listed Rooftop Film as part of “Your Perfect Friday.”

Eric Kohn of IndieWIRE said:

Compared to many places in America, New York does not lack for opportunities to see great movies all year long—but Rooftop Films provides one of the livelier venues for dedicated indie audiences each summer…I’m not the only fan of Tiny Furniture, The Happy Poet, Lovers of Hate and Gasland—a quartet of low budget cinematic achievements worth checking out…

Editor Leah Taylor told Flavorpill readers that:

The official start to our summer is when Rooftop Films announces its outdoor screening schedule.

From The New Yorker:

In New York City, rooftops are for more than just keeping the rain off one’s head. They’re places of respite. Some use them as tar beaches. Those looking for more active forms of entertainment can turn to the Rooftop Film Festival. This nonprofit group has been screening films and running events above the city streets for fourteen years now.

And from nightlife guide Club Planet:

Summers in NYC are always hot, busy and full of adventure. One of the great treats this summer is the outdoor feature film screenings hosted by Rooftop Film, now in its 14th year running their Summer Series.

We’re all just as excited as they are that a new season of Rooftop Films has officially begun. Check out our full summer schedule here and get your tickets in advance, before they sell out!
