One Man's Trash (Kelly Adams | USA | 17 min.)
In an East Harlem garage sits the unusual museum: Treasures in the Trash. The museum is the life’s work of Nelson Molina, a 34-year veteran of the New York City Department of Sanitation and a collector of discarded ephemera of interest. The film follows Molina on his route as, with a keen eye and an open mind, he plucks gems from what others have thrown away and assigns new value to them. Shown in 2015.
My passion rests at the intersection of media and education. When working as content curator with Culture Unplugged Studios, on behalf of the Spirit Enlightened Film Festival, I realized that I wanted to get on the other side of the camera. I went on to facilitate youth media workshops in Hyderabad, India and New York City and intern with POV, StoryCorps, and Downtown Community Television Center. I have spent the past year working as Production Coordinator with Gabriel Films Inc. and finishing my MA at NYU, focusing on Culture and Media. I am excited for her next step, working at the Lower East Side Girls Club and continuing to pursue my own creative projects on the side!
