Pioneer Works and Rooftop Films celebrate Argot Pictures’ release of documentary THIS AINʼT NO MOUSE MUSIC. The film explores the life and work of Chris Strachwitz founder of the hugely influential Roots music label, Arhoolie Records. Directors Chris Simon & Maureen Gosling and Chris Strachwitz will be present.

Presented by Argot Pictures and Pioneer Works. The evening includes screening of rare performances from legendary Arhoolie artists such as, C.J. Chenier, Michael and David Doucet, Bukka White, Treme Brass Band, Lydia Mendoza, and many more, as we;; as two films by Les Blank (shown on 16mm), Chulas Fronteras (1976) and Del Mero Corazon (1979).

The musical portion of the evening will include a special tribute to Lydia Mendoza by Las Rubias del Norte, a set of blues and roots music by singer Mamie Minch, rural Colombian Vallenato music by El Rey Vallenato Beto Jamaica as well as special guests digging from the same rich catalog that made Arhoolie the defining label of regional roots music.
