Roosevelt Island, located between Manhattan and Queens in the East River, has undergone numerous changes both in name and use and been passed to numerous owners in its recent history. Originally it was called Minnahanonck or "nice island" by the Native Americans of the Hudson Channel and is currently governed by the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. Created by the State of New York as a public benefit corporation, it is the mission of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation to plan, design, develop, operate, maintain and manage Roosevelt Island.
Take Tramway Car at 59th Street & Second Avenue Station to Roosevelt Island. Take the F to Roosevelt Island.
