Socrates Sculpture Park (Long Island City, Queens)
on the grass along the water
32-01 Vernon Boulevard, Long Island City, NY 11106
As part of Socrates Sculpture Park’s 2014 Outdoor Cinema festival, co-presented with Film Forum, Rooftop Films has programmed two film premiers at the park: The Deadly Ponies Gang and Forest of the Dancing Spirits. Each summer, thousands of New Yorkers come to Socrates Sculpture Park to sample regional cuisine from neighborhood restaurants, picnic on the grass as the sun sets over the city, enjoy performances by local musicians and dancers and, as the sky darkens, see exceptional international films on a large-format screen - all set against the spectacular backdrop of the Manhattan skyline.
Socrates has been screening films in the park for more than 15 years and the series has become one of the most popular outdoor events in all of New York City. Outdoor Cinema 2014 includes eight weeks of international films at Socrates Sculpture Park, taking place on Wednesday evenings in July and August. The festival opens on July 2 with the award-winning Russian documentary Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer, and continues through August 20th.
