Via #7 Flushing, Queens. Exit Mets-Willets Point and follow the signs to Flushing Meadows Corona Park through the exit ramp of the station into the park. Then, follow signs for the Queens Museum on a fifteen-minute walk through the park to the museum, which is located next to the Unisphere, the giant steel globe. The entrance is on the side facing the parking lot.

Leave your baggage at home and bring a picnic blanket out to Flushing Meadows Corona Park for Target Passport Fridays at the Queens Museum of Art co-presented with NYC & Company and Rooftop Films. The free weekly outdoor festivities feature live dance performances, a concert, and film screening from one of the many international locales that fuel Queens’ cultural and artistic vitality.

THE FILMS

When The Drum is Beating (Whitney Dow | USA/Haiti | 84 min.)
Documents the Haitian band, Septentrional. For 60 years this 20 piece band has been making beautiful music — a fusion of Cuban big band and Haitian vodou beats – that turns out thousands of fans. Their extraordinary story is interwoven with the history of Haiti and how it went from being the first free black republic with a huge wealth of natural resources to a shattered country that cannot support its citizens.
