Rooftop Films is seeking two interns and one programming intern for Spring 2015. We welcome graduate students and applicants finishing their 1st year of college (or age equivalent) or older. Applications are due no later than January 23, 2015.
Internships are not paid, but can be done for school credit. Find out your school’s internship or field work credit requirements and we will work with you to accommodate them. Our offices are on the border of Park Slope and Gowanus, near the R, F and G trains in Brooklyn, so please apply only if you will be able to handle that commute.
Spring Festival Intern (2 positions)
A Rooftop Films internship is a great opportunity for film, arts administration and nonprofit management students as well as young filmmakers: learn how a nonprofit film festival works and see hundreds of great movies.
We welcome undergraduate and graduate students, (film education, production and/or film studies a plus). Candidates should have excellent organizational and communication skills, and an enthusiasm for film criticism and/or curation. This internship is an excellent opportunity to participate in the programming process of Rooftop Films, and a great way to learn the inner workings of a film festival.
Candidates would be expected to average at least two days a week in the office, but generally the more time you can commit the better.
Internship tasks can include:
+ Tracking and requesting new independent films
+ Contacting and corresponding with filmmakers
+ Organizing off-season film screenings
+ Fundraising and grant work
+ Organizing and maintaining film databases
+ Audio and video tech work
+ Writing: including the Rooftop blog, social media, and website content
+ General office work
+ Anything else you might be interested in — we want you to see how we work
Candidates should have good experience working with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and experience with Filemaker, HTML, design programs or video editing software is a plus.

Programming Intern (1 position)
Rooftop Films seeks a programming intern to help and assist in the programming of the Rooftop Films 2015 Summer Series. Individuals should have a love of independent and foreign film, be motivated and detail oriented with an interest in film and programming. Individuals would work closely with the program director and members of the programming team to assist in the pre-screening and rating of film submissions, and would participate in the overall programming process.
We welcome undergraduate and graduate students with film education (production and/or film studies). Candidates must have excellent organizational and communication skills, and an enthusiasm for film criticism and/or curation. This internship is an excellent opportunity to participate in the programming process of Rooftop Films, and a great way to learn the inner workings of a film festival.
Candidates should be: web and computer literate, posess superior professional and organizational skills, and have the ability to work at least 20 hours a week with the possibility of more hours.
