Socrates Sculpture Park (Long Island City, Queens)
on the grass along the water
3134 Vernon Boulevard, Long Island City, NY 11106
In 2010, Rooftop Films and Socrates Sculpture Park will team up with The Museum of the Moving Image to co-present the Outdoor Cinema screening series in Socrates Sculpture Park. Each summer, tens of thousands of New Yorkers come to Socrates Sculpture Park to sample regional cuisine from neighborhood restaurants, picnic on the grass as the sun sets over the city, enjoy performances by local musicians and dancers and, as the sky darkens, see exceptional international films on a large-format screen - all set against the spectacular backdrop of the Manhattan skyline. Socrates has been screening films in the park for 15 years and the series has become one of the most popular outdoor events in all of New York City. More than 15,000 people attended the series in 2009 and we expect even bigger crowds this year.
The Socrates Outdoor Cinema events will run every Wednesday from June 30th through the end of August and will feature at least 7 large outdoor events along the water in the Park. The films for the screening series will be co-curated by Rooftop Films and the esteemed Museum of the Moving Image, and will feature fantastic films from all over the world.
Take the N or W train to the Broadway stop in Queens and walk eight blocks west on Broadway (toward the East River) to the intersection of Vernon Boulevard.
